Always wonderful to read more Chloe-oriented press! Here's a new article timed to coincide with CW's upcoming appearance in the Buffalo area:

http://www.buffalonews.com/entertainment/article79544.ece

It makes the mistake of referring to the group as a quintet, but it's a nice story all the same.

I like how the writer describes Chloe's spirit:

Quote
"Irish music is so connected to our heritage and culture, where we come from," says Agnew, a buoyant and earnest personality whose enthusiasm practically pours through the phone. "You look back to our history: In the hardest times and the happiest times, Irish people turned to music. There are drinking songs. There are songs for milking the cow. Without a doubt it's in our blood."

Chloe's reminiscences of hearing "Galway Bay" as a young girl add depth to her interpretation of the song:

Quote
"All the songs chosen for this show are songs that mean something to us," says Agnew. " 'Galway Bay,' which I sing in the show, is a song my mother, my grandmother, used to sing. I remember sitting on the carpet in front of the fireplace. People can feel that. It doesn't matter whether the music is in Gaelic or English, they take something away from it."

Chloe's insights into the meaning that CW's performances have for their audiences, reconnecting them to their ethno-national roots, are quite profound:

Quote
"You look at America, and because there are so many people with Irish in them, coming out and listening to two hours of music connects them to their culture, to their ancestors," she says. "There are people at our shows who've never been to Ireland, and may never get there. But listening to us they can get a feeling of their history and feel it in their hearts."

There is also a comment about the much-anticipated (and much-delayed) new Chloe solo album -- which is also promised in the current show's program.:

Quote
Agnew, who will turn 21 in June, is looking ahead to a life that will likely include solo albums -- showcasing her own songwriting -- and possibly even a move to the United States. But for now her focus is on the Celtic Woman tour,

If it has music on it like "L'Assenza," as well as celtic and classical pieces, I can't wait!

Wow that article had a few errors in it... the new tour is not about Ellis Island, the previous tour was... and Chloe isn't 20, she's 21.  And as you mentioned, they are now a quartet not a quintet.  But it's always wonderful to see quotations from Chloe. Smiley

Also: do any of you also "hear" their accent as you read these interviews?  I really did especially in the segment "In the hardest times and the happiest times, Irish people turned to music... Without a doubt it's in our blood."  Sorry, I just love the lilt of their speaking voices, almost as much as their singing voices. Smiley

Wait, hold the phone... I just read the end of the article, and I can't believe I missed this the first time:

...and possibly even a move to the United States.

That's the first I've heard of THAT!

Actually, I'm pretty sure that this has been mentioned in past interviews, possibly even on this forum, resulting in an interesting discussion about whether such a move would have a negative influence on Chloe, given the nature of American culture. I'd have to hunt around to find it, though, but I seem to remember that statement in a past interview, somewhere or other.

Actually I have heard it in banter amongst us here, I even recall the conversation in the chatroom.  But I thought it was all speculation by us, I didn't think it based on anything concrete.  What made this different is that it was mentioned in an interview (albeit not by Chloe herself, but by the author).  That's what I mean about it being the first I've heard... the first I've heard about it from anyone besides a fan.  If such a discussion among us was based on an interview comment about her moving to America, then that point was totally missed by me.

It makes the mistake of referring to the group as a quintet, ...

Seems that someone didn't make his homework:
Quote
... says Dublin's Chloe Agnew, who at 20 is the youngest member ...

Chloe is 21!!!

Actually I think this is a rehash of a previous article, I've read it before, only with reference to the tour starting. And she was 20 at the time of the original interview and our darling Alex was still there.

As Karen rightly points out, this was indeed a republished article, one that originally appeared in the Detroit Free Press, and was posted on the forum back in April, in this thread:

http://chloeagnewforum.org/index.php?topic=436.0

That thread quoted the passage about Chloe possibly moving to the U.S. I knew that I'd read it before:

Quote
Agnew, who will turn 21 in June, is looking ahead to a life that will likely include solo albums -- showcasing her own songwriting -- and possibly even a move to the United States.

And sure enough, a discussion ensued about this possible movie, with Moscapoet expressing some understandable concerns:

Quote
I agree completely with you Celeste about pop music. That is the main reason why I hope that Chloe does NOT move to the states. I'm sorry but our pop culture is corrosive and will do her more harm than good.

Maybe Chloe would do well in London - maybe a project with Hayley or her people.

Well, whatever she decides, I know she will do well. And I don't think the "Pop" world is where she is headed, at least not any deeper than Josh Groban, or that caliber of artists has delved. But she has her head on straight and doesn't look for trouble, I can't see this changing. And I'm not sure that the Contemporary world is as melodramatic. Let's put it this way, I cannot see Chloe going ANYWHERE near the Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan routes. She is way too smart and mature for that. She will be in this for her career, the music, and her fans.
I saw an interview (posted on uTube) where she was asked whether that world was a temptation for her, and she flatly denied that there was any pull at all. She said that she thought growing up in an entertainment family had helped with that, because she didn't see the glamour in it at all.

Yes Celeste I remember Moscapoet did mention how unfortunate it would be for Chloe to move to America, and yes it was that very thread (in fact, we might have all talked about it at the June Chloe chat too).  But when I first read that Detroit article, I didn't notice the comment being made about her moving... I was riveted to the part just before that, where it mentioned the possibility of future solo albums.  But in any case, it appears that the Buffalo article is basically a rehashing of the Detroit one, as you said.  Even though it would be better if the Buffalo "author" had written something original about CW and Chloe, at the very least it was promotion of them, which is desirable.
